Exploring Extreme Environments

People and animals live all over the world, and often in some pretty amazing and extreme places!

Here are six extreme environments from all over the world.

Your job is to get into groups of five or six and explore one of these environments,

as well as the animals and people that live there.

You will then create a short play about this environment to perform to the rest of the class.

You’ll need to include plants, animals and people that you find in these environments.

The best place to start would be to search online for images

about your chosen environment  so that you can get an idea what it looks like

and what some of the animals and plants are like.

We've also included some websites for more information below.

(But we also expect you to find some of your websites as well!)

Good luck!

The Galapagos Islands

A group of islands off the coast of South America that

contain some of the most unusual and unique animals found anywhere.

The Himalayas

A spectacular Asian mountain range that is home to the

tallest mountain in the world, Mt Everest.

You wouldn’t think much could live here, but plants, animals and people do!

Volcanoes

Created by the earth’s crust pushing against each other, volcanoes erupt in spectacular fashion.

Despite the danger, people and animals still exist around and even in volcanic craters!

Deserts

Harsh, dry environments that cover huge parts of almost every continent.

Very little water means that plants, animals and people have

to adapt in amazing ways in order to survive.

Antarctica

Believe it or not, Antarctica is the driest continent on earth!  It is also the coldest!

All creatures, including people, that live here need to adapt to exist in

the freezing temperatures year round!
