This term our focus is Explanation texts.

The structure of an explanation text and different elements are explored here. 

 

Explanation texts generally answer a WHY or HOW question that is asked as part of the title. 

WEEK 6- HAWAIIAN STORIES

Read through this story and retell it for the younger students at our school. 

WEEK 7- EXPLANATION TEXT

Click on the link to read about how Green Sea Turtles lay eggs and make a life cycle diagram.

 

How a Tsunami is formed? Read the document, highlight the features of an explanation text and draw a diagram. 

 

Fruit dispersal- How do seeds disperse away from where they grow?

 

Wind Turbines- Read the information from the website and draw a diagram to explain how they work.

Changing past to present tense

When writing explanation texts, often the tense of the language is written in present tense. Look carefully
