Exploring Non-Fiction
In reading groups, we are going to be exploring some non-fiction topics including our environment, why people live where they do and how plants, animals and people adapt to different circumstances.
Each week we'll have a number of stations that you'll rotate through over the coming weeks. It is your responsibility to make sure you are familiar with this page, so that you can locate the resources and know what activities you'll need to complete.
Good luck and enjoy!

Station A
Exploring Animal Environments & Adaptation
Explore the videos on your Studyladder account and answer
the interactive questions. You will need to explore
- Animal Environments
- Animal Adaptation and Environments
After completing these, feel free to explore the
other activities in this pod...
Station B
Exploring Camouflage
Watch the two videos on 'Camouflage' on Studyladder and then
write a one page summary outlining what camouflage is, what
animals use it and why it might be important.
You will need to watch the videos a few times and take notes in
your writing book so that you can write an outstanding summary.
Station C
Reading in a Group – Exploring Frogs & Amphibians
Explore the book "Frogs & Amphibians" with me.
This station will focus on predicting, summarising, working out
unknown words and asking and answering interesting questions. After reading, you will come up with six ‘w’ questions about the text. Then you will swap these with someone else in the group and you’ll find the answers to the other’s questions.
Station D
Animals of the Future
Investigate the book “Future Zoo”. You’ll need to read two sections from the following – The Great Oceans, The New Rainforests, The Coniferous Forests, The Open Grasslands, The Desert and The Tundra and Polar Regions. You will then need to choose one animal from each of your two sections and write about them in your literacy book. Make sure you use your own words and really think about how these animals have adapted to their environment. You then need to draw bright, colourful and informative pictures of your animals and label their features that make them unique.
After all of this, you will be creating your own animal
that will be unlike any on this earth!
So make sure you pay attention to all of the
important information as you work through the stations.
