Reconciliation Activities

You need to choose one of the following mini-projects to complete over the coming week...

It will be due on Thursday the 14th of May.

Research and create your own traditional Aboriginal artwork.

First you’ll need to google different types of Australian indigenous artwork and choose a style that you like.

Then you could use a variety of mediums (paint, chalk, leaves, bark or something else altogether!) to create an interesting artwork.

You might want to tell a traditional story or create a message of some sort.

First you'll need to find a few artworks that are similar and save them on your desktop.

Then you'll need to design your own artwork in your thinking book.

Include notes about the colours and materials you'll use.

WHen you're finished planning, you can begin on your final piece of art..

Make a film clip about either of these songs, both of which are about famous events in Australian history.

Paul Kelly “From little things big things grow”

Yothu Yindi “Treaty”

Create a biography about a famous Aboriginal Australian.

It could be a sports person, author, explorer, artist, musician or someone else altogether.

Make sure you include all important aspects of their life and their achievements.

You can present the biography in any way that you choose...

Create a book, an e-book or an animated movie about a Dreaming story of your choice.

First you’ll need to research a story that you like and then decide how you’d like to present it.

You could make an actual book using coloured paper, or an online program like Moovly, or even an app like Book Creator or Adobe Voice on the iPads…

Check out Dust Echoes or some books for good ideas...

Check out the Behind the News video “Bark Canoe” and write a newspaper article

about traditions that have survived and ones that have been lost.

Make sure you include lots of interesting pictures...

Sacred sites are really important parts of Aboriginal histories and stories.

Do some research about indigenous sacred sites on both land and in the sky.

Explore their histories and meanings and create an interesting 2D or 3D collage about one.

You can use any materials you want (paper, cotton, string, bark, rocks, pictures, leaves, sand or anything else)

to explore and represent the site and its meaning...

Research and explain what the ‘Welcome To Country’ is and why it is important.

You might want to explore smoking ceremonies as well as any other important parts of Aboriginal ceremonies.

Really good explorations will asked to explain the reasons to the rest of the school at the Reconciliation Assembly…

While we normally use four seasons in our calendars, different Aboriginal groups have different seasonal calendars. Check out this one that is used by the Wurundjeri people for Melbourne and then create your own.

Make sure that you make interesting and colourful and include lots of good information…

Create a Sorry Day Rap to perform.

Check out this website about Aboriginal hip hop and then create a song about an important aspect of

Sorry Day and reconciliation or another important aspect of Aboriginal culture…

Create an informative project looking at what Sorry Day and reconciliation are and why they are important.

You could use any format you like (iMovie, Keynote, a poster or something else) and you will need to research the issues and create an informative presentation...

You might also want to check out Kids Cyber and 12 Canoes or some other websites for more information...

Good luck!
